Pacific Rim School District- Supporting Literacy at Home: Graphic Novels!

Supporting Literacy at Home

You can use graphic novels to develop visual literacy skills by:

- Thinking about what the images are telling the reader.

- Considering the use of colour in the illustrations.

- Examining the facial expressions and body language of characters to make inferences.

Study the text: look at how the author uses captions, sound effects, word bubbles, and thought balloons to create interest or make an impact. Think about how the arrangement of text reveals information about the characters.
