International students attend either of our 2 High Schools:
Alberni District Secondary School (ADSS) - new campus opened 2013

Alberni District Secondary School (ADSS) is a modern public secondary school located in Port Alberni, British Columbia, on Vancouver Island. Serving students in Grades 8–12, ADSS offers international students the opportunity to study alongside Canadian students in a welcoming school community while choosing from a broad range of academic courses, electives, athletics, and extracurricular activities.
One of ADSS's strengths is the variety of learning opportunities available to students. In addition to core academic subjects, students can explore areas such as business, computer science and game coding, fine arts, media arts and photography, culinary arts, skilled trades and technology, leadership, and Indigenous studies. Specialized opportunities include the ADSS Hockey Academy and Outdoor Education. Older students may also have access to career-focused and dual-credit opportunities in partnership with North Island College.
International students are encouraged to become active members of school life. ADSS offers a wide range of school sports, including basketball, volleyball, soccer, rugby, wrestling, badminton, field hockey, track and field, cross country, golf, cheerleading, and dance. Students can also participate in clubs and other extracurricular activities, providing excellent opportunities to meet Canadian students, develop friendships, and become part of the school community.
The school is conveniently located close to community recreation facilities, including the Alberni Valley Multiplex, Bob Dailey Stadium, public library, and other amenities. Beyond the school, Port Alberni's location provides easy access to lakes, forests, mountains, and Vancouver Island's west coast.
For international students, ADSS offers an appealing combination: the course selection and facilities of a comprehensive Canadian secondary school, together with the personalized support and English-immersion opportunities of a small international student program.

Ucluelet Secondary School (USS) - new campus opened 2022

Ucluelet Secondary School (USS) is a small public secondary school located in the coastal community of Ucluelet on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, temperate rainforest, and the spectacular landscapes of the Pacific Rim, USS offers international students a uniquely Canadian educational experience in one of the most distinctive communities on Vancouver Island.
The school's small size creates a close-knit learning environment where students have opportunities to get to know their teachers and classmates well and become part of the school community. International students study alongside Canadian students and can participate in academic courses, electives, school activities, and extracurricular opportunities.
Life in Ucluelet is closely connected to the natural environment. Pacific Rim National Park Reserve is nearby, and the region is internationally known for its beaches, rainforest, surfing, hiking, and outdoor recreation. For students who enjoy nature and are looking for an experience very different from studying in a large Canadian city, Ucluelet offers an exceptional setting.
Because Ucluelet is a small and relatively remote community, international student placements at USS are limited and depend on the availability of suitable local homestay families. When placements are available, USS can be an excellent choice for independent students who are comfortable in a small-community environment and are looking for a highly immersive Canadian experience.
