About Us

The SD 70 (Pacific Rim) Indigenous Education team has a commitment to diversity and inclusion. In keeping with Indigenous protocol and building respectful relationships between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous peoples in Canada, it is customary to acknowledge the traditional territories or ancestral lands of Indigenous peoples. We would like to acknowledge the land on which we work and learn is the traditional territory of the Nuu-chah-nulth peoples, specifically the Hupač̓asatḥ, Huu-ay-aht, Tla-o-qui-aht, Tseshaht, and the Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ First Nations.

The Indigenous Education Team has been created in the spirit of ʔiisaak, hišukʔiš c̓awaak, and c̓awaackʷimin to support the integration of First Nation, Metis and Inuit worldviews into our curriculum; with an emphasis on Nuu-Chah-Nulth worldview, culture and language.
The Indigenous Education Team will focus on four main areas:
1. Consultation and communication with Nuu-Chah-Nulth communities, councils and governments.
2. Indigenous student achievement and school attendance
3. Classroom learning
4. Professional learning

The classroom focus of the Indigenous Education Team will be to both facilitate the integration of Indigenous and Nuu-Chah-Nulth culture and world view into the curriculum as well as co-teach these concepts with classroom teachers and Nuu-Chah-Nulth Education Workers.
