WEPAC Food Program
WEPAC Food Program the WEPAC Food program operates from the Wickaninnish Community School kitchen, which is situated in the traditional territory of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation. WEPAC (Wickaninnish Elementary School Parental Advisory Council) is a non-profit society run by the parents/guardians of the students at our school. If you are responsible for a student at Wickaninnish, you are a WEPAC member. Part of our mandate is dedicated to ensuring all of our students have access to healthy, scratch made food while attending school. WEPAC, SD70, along with many community organizations, businesses and individuals, work together to fund and operate the program every day that school is in session.
What we provide:
Breakfast- Chefs kitchen has a daily rotating assortment of fruit, vegetables, oatmeal, baked goods, toast, eggs, proteins which is available to all students when they arrive at school. Teachers have access to fruit for classrooms.
Recess snack- healthy snack trays are provided to the K-1 classes. An assortment of healthy snacks, much the same as the breakfast, is offered at Chefs kitchen from 10:30 until the end of the recess bell.
Lunch- monthly lunch menu envelopes are sent home with students. Lunch items are accompanied by healthy snack trays and served to classrooms during lunch service. Class supervisors (EAs and lunch monitors) oversee classrooms ensuring everybody eats together.
Afterschool Snacks- snack trays are distributed for students enrolled in afterschool programs.
Home slice- a way to extend our food security reach. Extras, baked goods, co-op gift cards, grocery boxes are sent home with students throughout the school year to support families.
