Weather/Power Outage

Weather/Power Outage

Weather/Power Outage
With the weather forecast it seemed a good idea to send a reminder of what our Power outage / inclement weather protocols are.

A reminder that if the power goes out, we will be contacting SD#70 board office and once it is established by Hydro how long it is until power will be returned a decision will be made on whether students are to remain in classes or be sent home. If students are sent home we will follow the following protocols:
-Board office staff will update the SD#70 free Pacific Rim App letting families know that we will be sending students home once we ensure their is an adult at home to receive them.
-Front office will contact the boat and buses.
-Front office will call all Opitsaht boat families. Once all families are contacted to ensure an adult is at home to receive the student we will send the students across on the boat.
-Front office will then contact Esowista /Tyhistanis families to ensure an adult is at home to receive the student. Once all families are contacted to ensure an adult is at home to receive the student we will send the students on the bus.
-Staff will be calling all walking students to ensure an adult is at home to receive the student we will then release walking students. (In families where there is more than one student -at the school staff who have the eldest child will be contacting families using cell phones as the school only has one telephone line during a power outage.
-Staff will be calling all town bus students to ensure an adult is at home to receive the student we will then release town bus students to the bus. (In families where there is more than one student at the school staff who have the eldest child will be contacting families using cell phones as the school only has one telephone line during a power outage.
A reminder if you are coming to pick up your child/ children please sign them out with the classroom teacher as front staff will be calling home to families.
If you'd like someone else to pick up your child please make sure to send a message to that parent or to speak to school staff directly letting them know your plans we cannot release students to someone else unless we have your permission verbal or written.
If we are not able to contact an adult at home to ensure someone is there to receive the child, the child will be held at the school with school staff.

If buses or boats are determined by the provider to need to run early due to weather we will follow the same protocols as above.
Opitsaht families we will also send our Indigenous Support Workers Mark Frank Perry and Darlene Frank across to make sure students have an adult at home in case we are not able tor each you. If no one is at home and we haven't been able to make contact with you. Darlene and Mark will wait with your child at the MICC while school staff attempt to connect with you.

We will update Facebook WEPAC page and TFN parent page if we are able to depending on service. The most reliable communication is through the SD#70 Pacific Rim app.
