School Meals Program - January 2025 Update

Pacific Rim School Meals Program

School Meal Program Highlights: September to December 2024

The School Meal Program, operated by Nourish, has had a fantastic start to this school year.

From September to December 2024:

• Over 400 students in Port Alberni and Ucluelet have benefitted from nutritious lunches and snacks daily, with a significant 37% increase in participation compared to last school year. Students in Bamfield and Tofino continue to benefit from existing meal programs.

• The School Meal Program kitchen renovation, located at EJ Dunn Elementary, is nearly complete. Once this work is finished, we will be able to offer an even greater variety of meals and snacks. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the volunteers and donors who have made this possible. Your support is invaluable in fostering a healthy learning environment for all students

How You Can Continue to Support the Program

1. Enroll in the School Meal Program: If you would like to enroll your child in the School Meal Program, please contact your child's school.

2. Donate: Contributions made to Nourish are kept within Pacific Rim School District 70, and this money is used to feed students in our district. The suggested monthly participation fee is $100 per month per student. We appreciate any contribution you can make. To donate visit: www.nourishcowichan.ca/donate. or scan the QR Code below:1736789112310.png

Help us make our School Meal Program more sustainable by donating metal forks and spoons to replace single-use utensils. If you have new or gently used metal cutlery to contribute, please contact knesbitt@sd70.bc.ca or drop off your utensils at your child's school. Every donation supports our efforts to create a greener future for our students. Thank you for your continued support in making the School Meal Program a success. Together, we’re nourishing minds and building brighter futures for our students.

3. Volunteer: Whether it’s assisting with meal prep or distribution, your help is always welcome. See the attached volunteer application form for more information.

Call for Volunteer Drivers

We are seeking volunteer drivers to help with meal deliveries to schools in Port Alberni. Deliveries originate from EJ Dunn Elementary School, and routes/times can be flexible to suit your availability. If you’re interested, please contact Kirsten Nesbitt or the administrator at your child's school. You will need to complete the Volunteer Driver Application Form and submit it along with a completed Criminal Record Check (free at the Port Alberni RCMP) to Kirsten Nesbitt at knesbitt@sd70.bc.ca.

Questions? Please contact Kirsten Nesbitt: knesbitt@sd70.bc.ca.
