École Alberni Elementary Students Share Leadership Work with the Board of Education

On April 22, students from the École Alberni Elementary Welcoming and Acknowledgement Group presented their work to the Board of Education at the district’s public board meeting.
This student group was formed as part of the school’s ongoing planning process to improve student achievement. In reviewing student data, staff learned that while students appreciated learning about Nuu-chah-nulth culture in the classroom, they wanted to see this cultural representation extended more throughout the school and into shared spaces.
The Welcoming and Acknowledgement Group was created in response. Since its formation, the students have taken an active role in building a more inclusive and culturally responsive environment at their school. Their presentation highlighted their efforts and vision, demonstrating impressive leadership and a strong commitment to reconciliation and belonging.
The Board thanks the students for sharing their learning and their important work with the wider community.
