Have you ever wondered why your child won't wear certain clothing, is bothered by noise yet is the loudest one in the room and can't sit still? Have you ever wondered why your child chews on things or is bothered by the hum of fluorescent lights? Join us and find out what may be happening for your child as we discuss the importance of Self-regulation.
On Tuesday, May 26/15 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm, the District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) is hosting a free, interactive parent workshop about Self-regulation. Our speaker will be Alicia Pollock, Occupational Therapist, who contracts with School District 70. Alicia works with children ages 0-19 who have challenges in the areas of fine motor development, sensory processing, Self-regulation and self-care activities (toileting, feeding, dressing, grooming). Alicia will share tools to help you understand what your child is communicating through his/her behaviour and what steps you can take to help.
Self-regulation is a child's ability to calm his/her body into a state that is ready for learning. Many children need support to do this through different types of activities, the environment around them and through connections with the adults in their lives. This workshop is designed to help parents understand how the sensory system works, how sensory processing impacts behaviour, and how to best support the child's learning and behaviour.
Although the workshop is free, Pre-Registration is required. When you register, please put "Parent Workshop" in the subject line and include your school, ages of your children and phone number. If you will require childminding, please let us know the number and ages of children you will be bringing. Thank you.
Pre-register or ask questions at firstname.lastname@example.org To avoid disappointment, please pre-register as soon as possible as space is limited to 50 participants.
Workshop will be held in the East/West Room at ADSS – doors will open at 6:00 pm. Please use main doors at the school.
We look forward to having you join us!
