 Information for Teacher Positions

​Teacher personnel include school-based teachers, District Resource Teachers and Teachers-on-Call (TOC’s).

School District 70 has an employment hiring practice which  gives  priority hiring rights to teachers of Aboriginal ancestry subject to the hiring, posting and filling, transfer, layoff and recall provisions of the current collective agreement.  School District 70 invites prospective applicants to self identify as aboriginal during the application process.  Prospective applicants should indicate during the application process that they are of aboriginal ancestry and request the Aboriginal Self Declaration Form from Trisha Gunderson at tgunderson@sd70.bc.ca to submit as part of their application.  Current School District 70 employees (including TTOCs) need not declare ancestry unless known ancestry has changed since the declaration process of February 2015.

Before being considered for a teaching position or for the Teacher-on-Call list, teachers must hold a current BC Teaching Certificate and be a member of the British Columbia College of Teachers (BCCT). For more information on the BCCT please contact:

Application Process
 

External applicants are welcome to apply to all postings;  however, only internal applicants will be considered during year end postings until June 1st.  Mid year postings are open to both internal and external candidates.

Teachers on Call
 
The District welcomes Teacher on Call applicants but has limited positions available.  Teachers with teaching specialties such as  French Immersion, or who are willing to TOC in Tofino and Ucluelet, are encouraged to apply.
 
Teacher-On-Call candidates must include the following information in their electronic portfolio:
  • TOC Application Form.pdf
  • covering letter
  •  current resume
  • most recent teaching report or student practicum report
  • proof of British Columbia College of Teachers (BCCT) membership
  • Teacher Qualification Service (TQS) placement
In addition to their electronic portfolio, Teacher-On-Call applicants are required to provide two confidential references using the .  SD70 Professional Reference Form.pdf are available in pdf format at and should be forwarded directly by the referee to the District office.
